Backing Acts in Greece

Saturday, March 29th, 2008

By Linford Stutzman Perhaps some voyages begin smoothly. When Jason and the Argonauts boarded the Argos in the Volos harbor thousands of years ago and sailed off toward the Black Sea in search of the Golden Fleece, it’s likely their friends and families gathered on the shore and thought to themselves as they waved goodbye, “Those Argonauts sure know how to handle a boat.” Or perhaps the Christians from Antioch, waving to Paul from the wharf in Selucia as his ship headed off toward Cyprus in 47 A.D., noticed that the captain looked sure and steady. That is not the way it was for Janet and me in SailingActs. On the morning of June 18, we woke early. I noticed, checking the barometer, as usual, the first thing in the morning, that the hand had fallen considerably overnight and was still dropping. Locals had been commenting on how unsettled the weather had been that spring, so this didn’t surprise or discourage us from leaving that day as planned. Janet and I scurried around taking on fuel, checking our e-mail at the Internet caf for the last time, buying last-minute supplies, and saying goodbye to our boating neighbors whom we had learned to know in the six weeks we were in Volos. We had aimed for a noon departure, but at 1:00 the insurance agent still hadn’t brought the necessary documents to the boat as promised. And besides, we were still stowing things and chatting with friends. Janet was on the shore talking to Jenny, who came to see us off, when the agent arrived and handed me the insurance documents. Suddenly we were ready. It was exactly 1:35 in the afternoon. With so many people watching our every move, I was a little nervous about pulling out, even though it seemed like such an easy task. We’d been living aboard the Aldebaran since May 7, during which time I had started her engine, hoisted the sails, spun the wheel, and changed her name. But she’d been tied firmly to the wharf the whole time. We had no idea of how she would handle. We began to unfasten the mooring lines. Somehow, it seemed, a growing and bemused crowd began to gather out of nowhere, anticipating some sort of “inept American” spectacle. With Jenny looking on apprehensively from the wharf, the Austrian boat neighbor on one side shouting encouragement in German, and the Dutch couple on the other side defending their immaculate boat from an assault they seemed to anticipate, I threw SailingActs into gear and moved smoothly away. For a few feet all was well. Then suddenly a mooring line caught and we were almost rubbing against the fine Dutch boat — a boat you do not want to scratch, especially when the alarmed Dutch owners are standing on deck. This was a situation in which the famous Dutch tolerance perhaps would not apply! To avoid disaster within the first 10 seconds of voyaging, I hurled myself to the rear rail to free the line, then heroically lunged face down across the hatch of the rear cabin and grabbed the wheel in order to get back on course. From this undignified position — flat on my stomach, legs sticking straight out over the stern rail like a human wind-vane — I steered SailingActs away from the wharf. For some reason the Dutch woman found this amusing. I could hear her thunderous laughter above the throb of the 42-horse-power, diesel engine from 100 yards off shore. But who needs dignity if you have adrenaline? We looked back and everyone was waving and smiling and so were we. We were off! We watched the disappearing shoreline where we lived for six weeks. How small it seemed compared to the open sea in front of us! Farewell, Volos, the Internet caf down the street, the helpful shopkeepers, the international boating neighbors, Captain Steve and Jenny. We rounded the harbor entrance, the motor throbbing. Janet and I were still congratulating each other when we noticed dark clouds rolling in from the north. Thirty minutes later, the sky turned black. We stared uneasily, then with alarm, at the dense sheets of rain pouring in the north, then around us, and finally directly on us from above. We continued to motor as the wind increased, whipping the water into whitecaps. I shut down the motor and just ran with the wind, doing three knots with no sails. Janet steered SailingActs as she pitched and heaved in the squall, while I went below to check our bearing and position on the chart. I’d never been seasick in my life, but on this day of many firsts, I got seasick instantly. This was not good. We needed to get some sail up to steady the boat. I managed, in 45 minutes of nauseous struggle with the wind and the waves battering the front deck, to raise the storm jib, then the mizzen, and SailingActs settled down as we picked up speed. I pulled on the foul-weather gear Janet gave me for Christmas the year before and ploughed through the torrents of rain and great gusts of wind, peals of thunder and bolts of lightning. I realized, with gratitude, that we had purchased an extremely seaworthy boat. Then the squall passed, the sun came out, and for the final hour that day, we followed the course we had plotted over waters we had never before crossed, on a boat we had never before sailed. We were heading for the island of Palaio Trikeri, some 16 miles from Volos. The charts made sense, the descriptions were accurate, and we found the harbor — full of charter boats. As in Volos, when we had pulled away from the wharf, everyone in the harbor seemed to be watching us as we drew near. Not wanting to demonstrate to the spectators that we had never dropped SailingActs’ anchor before, we decided on a secluded anchorage just west of the harbor. Janet released the brake on the windlass, and the anchor dropped but did not seem to hold. “Let’s try over there,” I suggested to Janet, pointing to a patch of sandy bottom we could see through the crystal-clear water. “I’ll push the button to run the windlass and raise the anchor. Then I’ll move the boat and you release it when we get directly above that spot.” I went back to the cockpit and pushed the anchor-windlass button. Nothing happened. I tried again harder, jiggling then pounding the button. There was no movement or noise from the anchor windlass. Did Captain Steve forget to tell me something? Although Palaio Trikeri is a very small and rather remote island, and even though the anchorage we chose was even more remote, there were a couple of houses on the cliffs overlooking the little bay in which we were struggling. One of the island’s few inhabitants watched the whole nautical circus with binoculars from the porch of his house above the little bay. Others joined him. I ended up cranking endless yards of chain up with my hands, which I thought were quite tough by this time, but I had blisters before I finished the job. We finally got the anchor up, found another anchorage on our chart, and headed toward it with the hope that in this one there would be no spectators. If it’s this difficult to anchor smoothly, I thought to myself, what will it be like trying to back into a crowded berth? Tomorrow we’re going to do some practice maneuvers, I vowed. We tried again in the isolated anchorage we spotted. Watching the depth sounder carefully, we crept into 12 feet of water and dropped the anchor, which set firmly, then backed the boat toward the shore. As our cruising guide recommended and is often done in the Mediterranean for extra protection, I took a line to shore with the dinghy and fastened it to a tree on the water’s edge. Before boarding SailingActs, I checked the depth under her keel. There were only about six inches — too risky. Though very tired, we decided to reset the anchor a little farther out. I’m still not sure what happened next as Janet attempted to payout the line tied to shore while I winched up the anchor by hand, then motored forward in order to drop the anchor in deeper water. Somehow the line became tangled, and as we moved ahead, the rope suddenly whipped through Janet’s bare hands and she screamed with pain and fear. It was terrible. She sat in the cockpit sobbing with the pain and frustration. We eventually got the anchor reset and the boat tied off properly, but Janet was still in shock and pain. That evening wasn’t quite as idyllic as we imagined it would be in our first anchorage. We had sailed only 16 miles that day but were physically and emotionally exhausted. And we still have several thousand miles and 14 months to go, I thought to myself. Around 9:00 that evening we made something to eat, then climbed into our bunks. I lay awake, thinking and praying. Please, God, help me make wise and safe decisions on this journey. Help me to stay calm, to be helpful and encouraging. Bless Janet tonight especially, and help this voyage be enjoyable for her. Sailing the Mediterranean hadn’t changed a lot in 2,000 years, I realized that first evening on the water. We had already experienced the reality of sea travel on the same sea as Paul sailed. We faced some of the same kinds of perils that Paul experienced and were no more in control than he was. I thought about how my resolve to continue on had wavered that evening as we were overwhelmed and confused. Did Paul ever waver during his “trials at sea” that he writes about? I wondered. Maybe, but he endured and triumphed. So will we, I thought as I drifted off to sleep. Reprinted from SailingActs: Following an Ancient Voyage. Cord Blood Banking - A Basic Explanation

Friday, March 28th, 2008

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Adel_Awwad] Adel Awwad Cord blood banking refers to the storage, public or private, of umbilical cord blood, which may be used to treat certain diseases of the blood and immune system. Once a baby has been born, he or she no longer needs the blood that remains in the umbilical cord. Until recently, that blood was disposed of, but now that we know it can save lives, cord blood banking has become an acceptable practice in the medical community. Cord blood is rich in hematopoietic stem cells, which means this blood can form white or red blood cells, platelets, and plasma. While this is similar to the make-up of bone marrow, because cord blood transplants don’t require a perfect match the way bone marrow transplants do, it can be used in transplants in much the same way bone marrow is; only with less chance of rejection. This means that more people can benefit from these transplants in a shorter time span instead of waiting years for a compatible donor. Cord blood is collected immediately after the birth of the baby. If collected in-utero, it is collected after the baby is delivered but before the placenta has been delivered. Ex-utero cord blood collection refers to the collection of the umbilical cord blood after both the baby and the placenta has been delivered. There are no health risks associated with cord blood collection, either to the mother or the newborn. Common methods of cord blood collection include inserting a syringe into the umbilical cord and drawing out the cord blood, or allowing the blood to drain into a sterile bag after the cord has been elevated. This procedure can be performed with either a vaginal delivery or Caesarean Section. However, it must be done immediately after the birth and processed within 24 48 hours. This processing includes routine testing, including testing for HIV and Hepatitis B and C. The cord blood is then stored frozen, ready for use. While studies for expiration dates are still ongoing, the New York Blood Center’s National Cord Blood Program (NCBP) has used cord blood in transplants that has been stored up to 10 years with the same results as cord blood used in transplants right after processing. Thus, while we have passed the 10 year milestone, it may be some time before we know exactly how long frozen umbilical cord blood is viable for transplanting. According to the NCBP, more than 70 different diseases have been treated with cord blood so far. These include different types of leukemia, Fanconi’s anemia, Hodgkin’s disease, sickle cell disease, lymphomas, and many others. Because cord blood is collected in advance, tested, and ready for use, it offers several advantages over a bone marrow transplant, in addition to the fact that cord blood recipients don’t have to be a perfect match the way bone marrow recipients do. There are both public and private cord blood banks. Public cord blood banks store cord blood for the benefit of the general public while private cord blood banks store umbilical cord blood for the benefit of the donor or his or her family. With a public cord blood bank, once all the testing is completed, all traces of the donor are eliminated, so there is no chance for anyone to request or receive a particular donor’s cord blood. Public cord blood banks are not-for-profit and donors pay no storage fees while private cord blood banks charge storage fees, as well as processing and collection fees. However, it is worth it to those who choose to go this route as they are assured of a perfect match should their baby need a transplant later on. It is certainly a viable option for those who have a baby with a transplantable condition or who may be at a high risk for such a condition. Why is “Desperate Housewives” so Popular?

Monday, March 24th, 2008

By Udo Vieth Infidelity and extramarital affairs are rife. TV shows come and go. Desperate Housewives being all the rage for a time. Oprah even raved about it, as many women swoon at the male stars. However now the men shake their heads in disbelief at the infidelity and other goings on. But…. Is it all a sign of the times. Remember Sex in the City? Women being more emancipated, have more freedom, and more resources than anytime in the past. So what does all that mean. Well for one thing, they are now more prepared to publically show their frustrations. They dont just accept that the man is out there doing his thing which does not always consist of just going out to work to bring in the bacon. Men having always had the freedom to roam, have taken this to the extreme. They have often left behind trailsof broken hearts and shattered families in their wake. Now though, women are starting to get on the bandwagon. Sexual emancipation is now no longer gender related. Both sexes are now equal. Infidelity is on the increase. Recent statistics suggest that up to 40% of women and at least 60% of men, have had outside relationship affairs at some time in their life. In studies performed recently, couple therapists however reported a 50% increase in female infidelity! The possiblity thus exists that someone close to is, was, or will be cheating on their partner! OK, so the women are fighting back but most men have no clue that their wives are having an affair. Most men find out the day their wife asks for a divorce. This is a life shattering experience, (trust me I know). Very few women become overnight cheaters though. The signs may have been there all along. There are usually stages of development, to the state of infidelity. Often, both partners contribute to these stages. Warning signs that not all is right, actually appear long before the actual physical act of infidelity. Usually most partners, dont spot them until its too late though. Why do they do it? Knowing the why, could be great help in protecting yourself from being at the wrong end of an adulterous relationship. Here are some reasons, which you may or may not understand. Just be aware that they can apply to men and women nowadays. Trophy hunters. Am I attractive, powerful, rich (insert your own attribute) ..enough to get that person to have sex with me? Lack of a truly intimate relationship. This may be either real or perceived. Some couples just dont have matching sex drives, leading to problems. Revenge. As silly as it sounds, this is a huge reason for infidelity. He or she did this to me, so I will get back at them by having an affair as well. Totally illogical in your mind, but not in theirs. Addictive behaviour, sexual tendencies, confusion or trauma. Low self esteem. Am I really good enough. If someone is willing to have sex with me, that proves that Im OK Lack of love in the relationship. A feeling of not being cared for, lets the partner look for this missing feeling outside the relationship. This then often leads to sex. Boredom..etc. So what are the signs? Well if you are in a loveless relationship, you by probably already know that the potential for problems exist. There may of course be other signs as well. A sudden interest to work more overtime, is a red flag. Spending less time at home. Receiving phone calls at strange hours and then not sharing the callers identity, are all suspicious. Etc etc. Those are the obvious ones. Now you can play detective and look at everything with a suspicious mind. But who wants to live that way though? Intelligent and commited partners, stay tuned into the relationship. They are aware of the pulse of how both feel about each other. All too often, relationships are just left to drag on, and eventually dies, even though the partners are still physically present. Remember to get the passion back in your life, by not letting this happen to you. Love is something too precious to just ignore. Bowfin-Mysterious Menace

Saturday, March 22nd, 2008

By Tony Liddle Until recently I never really put much thought into all of the dogfish that I have caught over the years of hunting bass & panfish. While fishing with the great Eric Allee recently, I asked him, Eric, what were you referring to when you used the word “bowfin”? We agreed that he was talking about what I call Dogfish. People may call this interesting breed other names, such as grinnel, blackfish, brindle, mud fish, shoe pike, cypress bass, cypress trout, choupique, scaly cat, bugle mouth bass, German bass, brindle fish, and many more. The Bowfin(Amia Calva) can be found throughout a good portion of the US east of the Mississippi. They run the entire Mississippi River to Canada, east to Florida, and up as far along the coast as New York, but are found primarily in sloughs & ponds on the Mississippi River, her tributaries, and backwaters. Bowfin is a prehistoric fish that dates back 180 million years. Dogfish have many unique characteristics that intrigue people today. One of the most amazing qualities they possess is their ability to breathe air. Yes, I said breathe air. Unlike most fish, bowfin use their swim bladder like a lung to grab oxygen from the air, when oxygen levels become low in the stagnant, muddy, and vegetation rich nonmoving backwaters. Another unique aspect of these fish is that when they first strike your bait it is a subtle bite, followed by a normal fight. Half way into the battle they turn aggressive & unforgiving. At this point you are fooled into believing you have the biggest Bass of your life, especially after landing a few largemouth prior to this encounter. Once the Bowfin breaks the surface, excitement turns into disappointment in a matter of seconds. Males make the nest, watch over the eggs and infant fish until they reach 4-8 inches. The small fish school up, and the male Dogfish protects them the whole time. Their powerful jaws hammer anything getting in the way of their youngsters…even humans at times. Males also have a shorter life span, and are smaller than the females. Bowfin, have large dorsal fins which extend a good portion of their back all the way to their tail. Their tail is paddle shaped, and allows for great swimming, maneuvering, and rolling, as well as fighting when they’re on the end of your line. There is a dark circle at the top of the tail that resembles an eye. Coloration varies between normal times to spawning periods. When not in spawn, they are darker & olive color. Their belly is usually an off-white shade, while their fins are bright green. When they spawn, they get an almost fluorescent glow to them, which is pretty beautiful. Dont let the description of exotic coloration fool you. These fish are still around today for a reason. Dogfish are tough and like to lie in most panfish and baitfish laden waters, which are prime honey holes for bass and panfish anglers. These fishermen are often fooled by the Bowfin’s tremendous fight. Bowfin remind me of a cross between a beaver, snake, muskie, & catfish. They will eat almost any aquatic creature & strike at will when their nest or young are jeopardized. Theres a good chance that after landing a nice sized Bowfin your spinnerbait, or weapon of choice, has seen its last day in the water. Dogfish destroy anything that comes into contact with their mouths, fight harder than anything youve ever caught, and will tear some meat loose from your body if youre not careful. Their head is large and flat at the top, consisting of a double skull of bone and cartilage. Their teeth are sharp & strong…handling these guys isn’t an art…it takes brute force. As you’re trying to retrieve your brand new spinnerbait, you realize that this is an extremely difficult challenge, if not an almost impossible task. Because of their bony, strong mouth the spinnerbait, head to hook is virtually destroyed. Dogfish are slimy and really strong…never hesitating to try to bite you at times. Placing the middle of your shoe behind their gills allows proper bait removal…without finger removal. The ongoing argument has always been, release or kill them. My Grandfather used to say, you gotta slit their throats. In my neck of the woods, common practice was crushing & throwing them onto the banks. Some anglers see dogfish as a threat to their gamefish ecosystem. I have not caught one in over 6 years, and now realize that they may actually be good for certain fisheries to thrive to their fullest, and avoid population stunting. After thinking about what I was taught, the manner in which I treated this creature of the mud, and reading some forums on bowfin, I realized this fish is famous and also unknown. Fishermen catch them all the time, never seeing or hearing of one before. Some enjoy the great battle they provide. To others they are delicacies, comparing the bowfin to crawfish, and snapping turtle. “Joy of Cooking” has recipes and diagrams on how to clean and fillet bowfin. The bowfin truly is an amazing fish once you sit back and look at it from both sides of the coin. http://www.fishinsecrets.com Tony Liddle grew along the banks of the Mississippi River, and became a warmwater fishing fanatic. Tactics For Lakes

Saturday, March 22nd, 2008

By Jonathan Bowler Do you find a large expanse of water slightly intimidating, as far as fly fishing is concerned? Do you arrive at a lake and look out at all that water and think “where do I start?” What follows is two different examples of fishing a lake successfully, and hopefully they might give you some ideas on how to catch fish around the edge of lakes. We arrived at Lake Brunner on the West Coast of New Zealand around 2pm. It was a hot day, with a reasonably strong wind coming off the lake — hardly ideal fishing conditions. But after a 5 hour drive, I was determined to go fishing, no matter how bleak the prospects! We set off around the lake edge, and after a 20 minute walk we stopped to set up the rods. I would say that 90% of people fish within 15 minutes walk of an access area, and if you go just that little bit further your chances of success increase. I put on a #10 Black Gnat, always a favourite pattern for lake edges, and began to scan the water. It only took several minutes to spot a fish slowly making his way upwind, about 15 feet out from the edge. Circling around ahead of him, I put the fly out on the water, and crouched down to wait. 30 seconds later the fly disappeared leaving a swirl on the surface. I tightened up to a nice 3lb Brown which put up a good fight before being landed, photographed and released. I got another 3 that afternoon, all spotted within 20 feet of the bank, and ambushed with a fly placed ahead of it. So why were fish caught on an afternoon that my fishing buddy felt would have been better spent relaxing in the pub? *Prepared to walk just that little bit further, to get away from the over fished areas. *Realising that fish would be in close with the cover of waves and wind. *Spending the time looking for fish, rather than blindly casting. *Using a fly suited to the windy rough conditions. The next example was a trip to the head of Lake Tekapo, in the McKenzie country, South Canterbury. Possibly the worst conditions I have ever tried to cast a fly in — it was difficult to even stand up in the wind, let alone cast and the waves on the shore were well over a metre high. The North–West wind was howling down the lake, it was cold, with rain squalls, and lightning in the hills. Definitely a day to be indoors, but stupidity knows no bounds at times. Besides, we were there, we may as well give it a go! But how to cast with a gale force wind? Not a chance — so different tactics were called for. To get to the lake, we had walked down beside a small stream. This flowed out into the lake, and having fished there once before we knew there was a drop-off hidden in the waves - perhaps there were fish over the edge of that? So I stood on the upwind side of the stream, and cast a line directly downwind over the current of the stream. A wet line, or sink tip would have been a better choice, but a dryline was all I had with me, so it was going to have to do.My choice of fly was an olive Wooly Bugger #8, which I find to be a good general purpose fly when fishing blind in deeper water. As the current took my fly out into the lake, I would pay out more line, until there was 20 metres or so out. Then slowly strip the line back in and repeat the process. Bingo! A hookup. It was impossible to keep in touch with the fly, so hooking a fish was a hit and miss affair, but there were plenty of Rainbows sitting over that drop-off. We caught 5 Rainbows that afternoon. Nothing above 3 pounds but in those conditions, every fish was a bonus! Which all goes to show one thing, sheer stupidity can sometimes reap its own rewards. Trust And Obey Part III

Thursday, March 20th, 2008

By Linda Dipman Joshua was excited and eager to show God his desire to complete the task of conquering the Promised Land. He sent some men to spy out the land of Ai. The commanders, full of enthusiasm over their battle at Jericho, recommended that they send only two or three thousand men. He agreed and the army left. The men began their attack with confidence and determination to clear the land for Israel, but soon in utter shock they were forced to retreat. Thirty-six of the men died and in fear Joshua fell prostrate before the tent of the presence of God. Joshua 7: 10-12, “The Lord said to Joshua, ‘Get up! Why are you lying on the ground like this? Israel has sinned! They have broken the agreement with me that I ordered them to keep. They have taken some of the things condemned to destruction. They stole them, lied about it, and put them with their own things. This is why the Israelites cannot stand against their enemies. They retreat from them because they themselves have now been condemned to destruction! I will not stay with you any longer unless you destroy the things you were ordered not to take!’” Joshua immediately took action and discovered that Achan had taken a pound of gold, five pounds of silver and a beautiful Babylonian cloak. In sheer terror Joshua commanded the people to at once stone Achan, his entire family and to burn their possessions and the things that he took. Joshua’s knowledge of the book of the Law and how sin can come in and stop God’s help taught him to take immediate action against Achan. His understanding of the Spirit world and how it interacts with our world helped him to see that without God’s protection they could never succeed in their quest to conquer the Promised Land. Joshua 1: 7&8, “Just be determined, be confident; and make sure that you obey the whole Law that my servant Moses gave you. Do not neglect any part of it and you will succeed wherever you go. Be sure the book of the Law is always read in your worship. Study it day and night, and make sure you obey everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.” Joshua once again became determined and confident ready to do whatever was necessary to do the will of God, even if it meant killing his own brothers. He committed his ways to instructing and teaching the Israelites in the Law so they would be able to succeed with God’s help. During the entire time I was fighting for custody of my children, Tori had successfully held onto Brad. Her ex-husband had admitted to abusing their son and was found guilty of child abuse. Tori and I both had gained strength from God’s supernatural messages and were determined to follow them and stand up to anyone who got in our way. However the Southern Baptist Church were forever flooding the court system with letters of disapproval over our being in love and gay. Finally the Judge understanding it was an election year gave into their demands and turned over soul custody of our children to Eric with me being given visitation only if their dad wanted me to see them. My attorney explained that it would take at least two years before they would allow me to overturn this verdict. Once again God sent Tori and I a message to run with our kids and to not give into the verdict of the evil judge. In obedience to His will and trusting that God knew our best course of action we fled to another state. The police caught up with us two months later and we were put in jail. Now everything had changed, Tori’s ex-husband had recently married and now with our being in jail, he took this opportunity to come after custody of Brad. Tori’s grandparents bailed her out of jail and immediately she retained a lawyer so she could fight for Brad. I was left in jail and mad at the predicament we were in. I had lost custody of my children, now Tori was about to lose custody of Brad. Prison was looming over both our heads for defying the court order and all I had done was trusted and obeyed God. God’s message flowed like the fragrant breathe of spring giving me strength to trust Him and the power to believe that He had a plan. “Dear Linda, I love you. I am so proud of you. Look back and see what you have learned. My Ways Are Not Human Ways, Trust in Me. Pray for protection from Satan, God has Spoken.” Here I was in jail, my children had been turned over to their father, and all God would say was “Trust in Me”! I took a deep breathe and blew out the air trying to clear my thoughts. Slowly I began to wrap my mind around what God was teaching me. I opened my Bible began to read. Romans 8: 35-39, “Who, then, can separate us from the love of Christ? Can trouble do it, or hardship or persecution or hunger or poverty or danger or death? As the scripture says, ‘For your sake we are in danger of death at all times; we are treated like sheep that are going to be slaughtered.’ No, in all these things we have complete victory through him who loved us! For I am certain that nothing can separate us from his love; neither death nor life, neither angels nor other heavenly rulers or powers, neither the world above nor the world below-there is nothing in all creation that will ever be able to separate us from the love of God which is ours through Christ Jesus our Lord.” Once again God directed me towards the unseen spiritual world. A Supernatural world of Spirits that infiltrate the mind of men and pits them against each other in a battle over God and love against Satan and hate. A dimension unseen but very real in the minds and hearts of those who play in this huge muti-faceted world game of life. I held tightly to God believing that He loved me and He would fix the mess that Tori and I were in. I understood that I was fighting against more than people, I was fighting against a Spirit world. Joshua was commanded to be determined and confident, yet he was stunned when they lost 36 good men because of Achan’s sin. They believed they were on the side of God, but their lost let them see how easily they could be destroyed by the evil side of the unseen spiritual world if they didn’t follow God’s commands completely.
