Keeping Pace with Business Marketing

Monday, December 31st, 2007

By YC Ng Today’s business marketing rules are different than they were in years past. Those rules that once focused predominantly on local and regional business marketing have now gone global, thanks in large part to the creation of the Internet. Internet technology has brought the business world closer together and nowadays, it’s just as easy to conduct business across the globe as it is to conduct business across town. If you want your business to stay afloat in today’s highly competitive business environment, you’ve got to understand these changes and bring your business marketing strategies into the twenty-first century. Every business owner knows that it’s imperative to have a company web site, but what many don’t fully understand is how to use this tool to maximize the company’s exposure. You know your web site is out there on the Internet, but do others? If they don’t, your web site won’t do you or them any good. You’ve got to let others know it exists. That’s right - business marketing rule #1 is to advertise your web site address using all available resources. Put the URL on every piece of promotional material you publish - on your company stationery, on every employee’s business card, on your signature line - include it everywhere you mention your company name. Another way to increase your company’s web site exposure is to take steps to increase its ranking within the various search engines. Creating useful keyword-rich content with links to your website is a great way to accomplish this goal. If you don’t understand keywords and search engines, hire someone who does. It will be business marketing money well-spent. While you’re taking steps to build and promote a powerful web site, be sure what you do and say on the web site remains consistent with the business marketing efforts already in place. Also, your web site should be another tool that new and existing customers can use to communicate with your company. Not only will this facilitate communication between various time zones, it’s a more cost-effective way to communicate. One business marketing rule that has not changed is the importance of knowing what your competitors are up to. Visit your competitors’ web sites regularly and if they’re good at keeping its content current, you’ll be able to keep abreast of their latest developments and other news-worthy items. In many ways, the Internet has made business marketing easier. Understanding how to use it to your company’s advantage is good business advice. The Importance Of Your Online Dating Profile

Sunday, December 30th, 2007

By Jason King If you’re serious about finding love online then your online dating profile has to be a good advert for you. It needs to stand out from everyone else’s profile. From the photo, to the your username to the details they will find when they click on your personal ad. Every part of it has to draw the single further towards contacting you. The first part of your dating profile anyone will notice is your photo. Chances are your photo will be surrounded by a lot of photos where you can’t tell what anybody looks like. A lot of photos on online dating services are taken from too far away. Usually they are one of someone’s vacation photos. If your photo is clear, up to date and from the shoulders up it’s going to stand out. You’re going to be the first one any single is going to be noticed, and have some interest shown towards you. It will show that you are looking to start a relationship. And that’s exactly what other singles are looking for. Your username is what will attract them next. This is another part of your personal ad that can show them you’re looking for romance. Everyone is anonymous online so be creative with your name as well as hiding your real name. Add some fun to it but don’t make it sexual. Keep it clean, and then it won’t turn anybody off. Something like Luvhere4u will put something in their mind, and make them think a bit. It will look good being backed up by an online dating profile photo that they’re already interested in. It also tells the single browsing what your intensions are, and what you hope to gain from the online dating web site. Next is your details. First thing you must do here is be honest. The last thing you want is to be caught out telling lies just when your about to get your first offline date with someone. You don’t have to put your life story in there, just don’t tell any lies. Fill your online dating profile in with as much detail as necessary. You will get the usual bunch of boxes you can tick for various things, and then you have your description box. This is where you can sell yourself better than the next single. A lot of singles will leave this part blank, and just start searching the profiles. Then they wonder why no one is contacting them, and will blame it on the online dating web site. You need to add some spice to your profile. Tell them about your hobbies and why you do them. You can say what your goals in life are, and then someone will connect with them. Use this space also to say what type of single you’re looking for. Don’t put anything negative in here though. Say what you’re looking for but don’t mention the things you don’t want. If you want someone slim don’t say you’re not interested in anyone overweight. Put something positive like you’re looking for someone who looks after their body. It takes the negative out of your profile. The more positive comments you have the more another single will be attracted to you. If you keep your online dating profile positive, up to date and make the photo and username stand out you should have no trouble in getting contacted. And you will also have a much higher strike rate in getting replies from your e-mails. Know Your Man: His Children

Friday, December 28th, 2007

By Maria Moratto “Children are priceless, but raising them is probably the most expensive thing you’ll ever do.” ~ MSN Money “I believe that we parents must encourage our children to become educated, so they can get into a good college that we cannot afford.” ~ Dave Barry “No fathers or mothers think their own children ugly.” ~ Miguel de Cervantes According to MSN Money (Sept. 2005), not counting Higher Education, which can mount to $150,000, and not counting private schools and hospital bills, a child costs $135K ($40K/year, income) ; $185K($40-70K/year income); and $270K (70K+/year, income). Children 15-17 years old are more expensive. Expensive? Mamma mia! If our men have children from a previous relationship, the above mentioned amounts must be taken into consideration when making our annual budget. It is imperative that we understand that a man has a moral and financial obligation towards his children and in no way, have we the right to deny or reduce help to these children. The Golden Rules is crucial in this case. As we wouldnt want this to happen to our own children, we cant let it happen to the ones that are somewhat related to us.The same thing applies when the children are visiting our home, which is also their home. There has to be no denying of privileges and no differential treatment between our children and his children. A lot of flexibility is required, but this is totally doable with a good dose of goodwill. Everyone deserves a supportive father, in any which way they need.Though you might think I am a fool, may I recommend that you maintain a friendly relationship with their mother as well? We must do all we can for the sake of every childs happiness. My friend Jaimen has 5 children from his first marriage and 2 from his second. The family live a comfortable life that is not luxurious, though he could afford it if he so wished. This is because he gives his first wife a great salary so she can stay home and take care of their children. He thinks that it is not fair that because he has left the house (for whatever reason) his children need to suffer or change their former lifestyle. He pretends he is still there and makes sure everyone is cared for. I once invited him to be my ex-husband! Ok, so we can say that he was able to be so generous because he had the means to; I will say that we can all do this proportionally to what we make. This is the way it should be. Our children are not to pay for their parents folly. A Word of AdviceLadies: Accept the fact that his children are important. Lets understand that we knew this before we got together with our men. Jealousy and differential treatment do not become us. Remember Cinderella? Lets be fair. Gents: Dont punish your children because you now hate their mother. Remember that we need to be responsible for our actions for life, especially when our actions resulted in the birth of other human beings. Give them love, support, and guidance, no matter where they live. Maria Moratto 2006 Want to have more abundance, health, time, love, fun, and blessings? How To Make Money Today - While Banking Future Wealth At The Same Time

Thursday, December 27th, 2007

By Kevin Thompson I just got through reading a post, written by a stay at home mom named Jennifer, on one of the home-based business forums I frequently visit. Apparently, shes in serious legal trouble, due to the fact that shes been involved with an illegal porn spam project that affected millions of people across the country. In her post, Jennifer gives all the details, including how and why she got sucked into the scheme, which was obviously for the money. She was making $9,000.00 a month. Now Im sure as heck not here to pass judgment on Jennifer. Truth be told, I feel bad for her. But her story brings up a very interesting point. In her own words, she admits what she did was wrong. But because she was being paid so well, she put her ethics aside. And lest you think Jennifers story is some isolated case, let me assure you, its not. While it may be an extreme example, there are plenty of business owners who have put their ethics aside, in the hopes of making more money. And the sad truth is, its actually a lot easier to make money when you do it ethically. Let me explain why. If youre an unethical business owner, you dont get to take advantage of repeat or referral business. Once youve treated some one unfairly, they aint gonna be coming back for a second round. As a result, youll NEVER get your hands on the biggest profit center in your business (the repeat and referral income). I was at a seminar in Chicago last year and one of my mentors, Dan Kennedy shared his story of speaking on the Peter Lowe Success Tour, where he sold millions and millions of dollars worth of his products. He explained that if all he accomplished at those events, was to sell his product from the stage, he wouldve never wasted his time. But Dan knew that every time he sold a product, he also gained a new client, and when they were happy with the product, theyd come back and buy again. As a result, each time he made a sale, he put money in the bank that day. But because he knew that each new client was worth X number of dollars to him (in repeat sales) he also put money in his future wealth account. And Ive got to admit, since hearing his story, my own view of business has completely changed. In my own businesses, I now concentrate on my future wealth bank account just as much (if not more) than I concentrate on my daily sales bank account. As a result, my future wealth income has almost surpassed the amount of money I make from daily sales. In the months and years to come, my future wealth will completely overshadow my daily income. But heres the deal: If youre an unethical business person, youll never be able to do what Ive just shown you. Why? Because youll never get any repeat business. To build future wealth requires that you give your clients the best possible quality and quantity of services and products. Which in turn, requires that you do business in an ethical manner. Building Garden Paths and Flower Beds On the Cheap

Monday, December 24th, 2007

By Alice Scott We recently added a large back yard. Toward the back of the yard is our perennial bed and gold fish pond. Theres just an empty space between the house and the garden with freshly sprouted grass. I stood at the house and looked toward the pond and imagined the path I walk to get there. If I made that path a real path it seemed like it would add a lot to the yard. I took a rope and laid it out where I thought the path should go. I like to work with materials I already have or with free materials. So I always question what I already have. A large pile of oak chips that came from the tree that fell on the neighbors house last year comes to mind. The neighbor asked if they could dump the chips over our bank in the back. The wood was in good condition when it got chopped up. So if I laid the oak chips down for a path, they would need something to contain them so they dont end up in the grass. Our pondless waterfall weve been building has had us carrying rocks back from the river so my next thought is of some small flat rocks. The next trip to the river I filled 3 five gallon buckets with small flat rocks. First I sorted my rocks by size and started with the smallest ones at one end of the newly envisioned path. I made two rows with the rocks about 40 apart and put the wood chips in between the rows of rocks. Later that afternoon I had a beautiful looking path and what a change it made to the yard. You could also consider using short fencing, bricks, pavers, small tree trunks, crushed stones, or bark chips for materials. Use your imagination to come up with materials for your path. Last week a visitor mentioned how beautiful the yard looked and how great the path was. He said to his wife Look at what her husband did. (why do the men always get the credit?) He built that path for free. We just spent $6000 for pavers to do the same thing! The Costs of Microdermabrasion

Saturday, December 22nd, 2007

By Eddie Tobey The cost of microdermabrasion can be categorized under three general levels: at-home, health spas and salons, and medical practices. Each category also varies in price. Lets explore the at-home cost of microdermabrasion first. The cost of microdermabrasion home systems is the cheapest of the three levels. However, home systems vary widely in price and quality. For example, many home systems do not provide the hand-held re-surfacing tool, but only the micro-crystal cream and usually a replenishing lotion. This is more like traditional exfoliating regimens, but with the added bonus of the micro-crystal technology. You can find these systems for $15 to $55. Many prefer the added revitalizing power of a hand-held re-surfacing wand. Other home systems provide the micro-crystal creams, foam applicators, and a hand-held resurfacing wand. The advantage to this all-inclusive home system is that the resurfacing wand allows you to more deeply cleanse and polish pores while giving your circulation a healthy boost. The massage action of the wand actually speeds the process of cellular generation, leaving your skin feeling brand new, ranging in price from $40 to $150. Spas and salons utilize state of the art microdermabrasion systems that use a closed-loop vacuum system. Like home systems, professional microdermabrasion treatments also rely on the polishing effects that micro-crystal creams perform on the skins surface. Additionally, the re-surfacing device simultaneously vacuums and sweeps the debris clear, increasing tissue stimulation. Professional systems pack more power and durability due to repeated use and varied clientele needs, requiring training and cost several thousands of dollars. Treatments usually cost around $100 to $140. The cost of microdermabrasion in a medical setting is usually more expensive because of the expertise of a dermatologist or cosmetic surgeon, though RNs and other medical technicians also provide this treatment. Medical microdermabrasion treatments are often provided as a compliment to other more invasive procedures. Medical microdermabrasion systems are the most expensive, being the most specialized, costing up to $25,000. Treatment prices range from $100 to $200, and are often offset by combining other services. So whether in the comfort of your own home, at a health spa, or under the supervision of a medical professional, microdermabrasion technology empowers you to seriously beautify your skin at a reasonable cost, without the risks involved in laser therapy, harsh chemicals, or traditional surgery. Microdermabrasion Info provides detailed information on microdermabrasion, a progressive skin re-surfacing technique that targets wrinkles, lines, superficial scarring, stretch marks, acne, and sun damage. Studies Identify Relationships Between Sleep and Weight Gain (Part One)

Saturday, December 22nd, 2007

By Michael Callen It is with great joy that I pen this article. It seems that every weightloss tip involves taking something enjoyable out of your diet or routine. Sure, its for our own good… and the end result is that we’ll feel better, but sometimes it really seems as though we’ve got to exercise twenty hours a day and eat nothing more than broccoli to win the battle of the bulge. This time it’s different. This time it’s special. For the next couple of issues, we’re going to discuss the importance of sleep as it relates to weight-control and fat loss. Yes, I am happy to suggest that you should sleep more and sleep better! You don’t need to be a scientist to realize how important sleep is. Simply skip it for a night and you’ll never forget why you need it. Sleep is the time that we relax, recharge, renew and renovate. For our minds, it is the time that we let the stresses of the day go so that we can start anew the next day. For our bodies, it is the time that our muscles are rested and healed. On a biochemical level, however, there is a lot more going on than just rest and repair. This is the time in which the body releases and regulates the majority of its hormones. Three main hormones have been identified as directly affecting your weight in three different and important ways. The first hormone is cortisol. If you’ve been awake at all the last several years, you’ve heard of this stress hormone and its reputation for storing away fat in the most visible ways. Cortisol is there for a reason, but changes in lifestyle have caused it to work against us. Under duress, the human body releases cortisol to provide bursts of energy, while slowing the metabolism. In a life-or-death struggle with a sabre-toothed tiger, this beneficial chemical reaction can provide additional energy needed to survive a “flee or fight” situation. Our modern, and more sedantary, lifestyles find us, more often than not, experiencing stress while at work, in traffic or at home with the kids. Because our activity level does not compensate for a lowered metabolism, the fat that we should be burning gets affixed to the beltline. The more stress we experience, the more cortisol is produced, the more fat is stored… The story is repeated day after day, and the end result is that we gain weight from stored fat. The second hormone is leptin. Leptin is know as the “satiety hormone”. If you aren’t familiar with the word “satiety” it’s root is the same as that for the word “satisfy”. When we have the proper amount of leptin in our blood, our bodies recognize that we are “full” sooner. That is, we know when to stop eating because the leptin allows us to realize that we should be satisfied. A study out of the University of Chicago published in “The Lancet” in 1999 followed a group of young men who were in good shape. This group of men were limited to only four hours of sleep during a sixteen day period. The effects were amazing: * Leptin production was down causing the men to feel excessively hungry, so much so that the men consumed an average of 1,000 additional calories each day * Cortisol levels increased so that the metabolism slowed down * Blood glucose levels increased to pre-diabetic levels, a sign that their bodies were unable to properly process carbohydrate Okay, you probably agree that you don’t want excess cortisol or a shortage of leptin in your blood. So how do you know if you are getting enough sleep? Sleep experts suggest that if you answer “yes” to these three questions, you are likely getting enough sleep: 1. Do you wake up on your own, without an alarm clock each day? 2. Are you able to function at an optimal level throughout the day without getting drowsy? 3. Are you able to fall asleep easily each night? Well, that should give you something to sleep on… we’ll continue this thread in the next issue when we look at the third hormone (human growth hormone) and how to benefit from some really smart protein powder!
